When Does Data Become Big Data?

Big data has been a mainstay keyword in the data science industry as various companies now work on huge projects which transmit and process large sets of data. However, most data scientists and analysts have failed to understand the proper definition of big data and how it works.

Understandably, a good number of professionals work in teams and with basic data capacity. Therefore they haven’t really found the need to critically understand big data in modern terms and in relation to advanced technologies.

As most of us know, data scientists have well been in demand in major sectors ranging from health, business, marketing, and others. Every data scientist must stay acquainted with technical terms in the industry.

What is Big Data?

From the word “Big Data” I bet your first guess would be in relation to size or volume– you’re right. Although it’s somewhat more than that. Big data refers to large, complex data sets that cannot be curated, stored, and processed by commonly used data analysis software and programs. These are diverse sets of information that continue to grow and advance at rapid rates.

Every day, 2.5 quintillion bytes of data are created, and it’s only in the last two years…
